A combination of host ecology and habitat but not evolutionary history explains differences in the microbiomes associated with rotifers

Abstract The holobiont concept places emphasis on the strict relationship between a host and its associated microbiome, with several studies supporting strong effect of quality microbiome fitness. generalities have been questioned for invertebrates, including zooplankton. Here we assess role ecology, habitat, evolutionary history to explain differences in microbiomes rotifers, across broad taxonomic spectrum from different habitats. analyses 93 rotifer-associated 23 rotifer species revealed that combination effects ecology habitat seem be stronger than phylogenetic distances explaining microbial composition microbiomes.
